The South Dakota Republican Party Is Ready for Fall

Every two years, the South Dakota Republican Party gathers to do something that political parties across this country do less and less of — actually govern themselves. Our state convention is not a stage-managed photo opportunity. It is a working meeting of Republican activists, precinct committeemen and women, county officers, and party leaders from every corner of South Dakota. It is where the grassroots of this party have a real voice, and where the direction of the SDGOP is set by the people who built it.

This year’s convention delivered.

Delegates took up some of the most important issues facing South Dakota families and passed resolutions that reflect our values clearly and without apology. They voted to strengthen justice for victims of child sexual abuse and pedophilia — sending an unambiguous message that South Dakota Republicans will always stand on the side of protecting our children, born and unborn. They passed a resolution banning cell-cultured protein in South Dakota, defending our agricultural heritage and the right of South Dakotans to know what they are eating. And they acted to protect South Dakota from the consequences of Minnesota’s radical energy policy, making clear that our state will not be held hostage to our neighbor’s ideological agenda.

Delegates also addressed the integrity of our elections — passing resolutions supporting petitions at all levels of government, calling for the elimination of electronics in our election system, and limiting changes in party affiliation. Taken together, these resolutions affirm what South Dakota Republicans have always believed: that elections must be transparent, accessible, and trustworthy.

That clarity of purpose is exactly what this moment demands.

November 3rd is closer than it looks. South Dakota Republicans will have the opportunity to elect strong conservative candidates up and down the ballot — from the United States Congress to the state legislature — and to protect our state from ballot measures that would move South Dakota in the wrong direction. The stakes are real, and they are high.

The general election is not a formality. Republican dominance in this state was earned by generations of conservatives who showed up, organized, knocked doors, and voted. It is maintained the same way. Complacency is the only thing that can slow us down, and we cannot afford it this fall.

What gives me confidence heading into November is not poll numbers or party registration totals — it is the energy I saw at our convention. Republicans across South Dakota are engaged, informed, and motivated. They understand what is at stake. They are ready to work.

Now it is time to build on that momentum. If you are a registered Republican, make your plan to vote on November 3rd. If you have neighbors, family members, or coworkers who share our values, talk to them. Volunteer with your county party. Get involved. The strength of the South Dakota Republican Party has always come from its people — and this fall, we are going to need every one of them.

The convention showed us what we stand for. November will show us what we are made of.
